WTN Serves Up Success at Play Your Way to Wimbledon 2025
This year’s Play Your Way to Wimbledon was a smash hit — and the ITF World Tennis Number (WTN) played a starring role once again.
In 2025, updated WTN entry bands were introduced to make the competition even more inclusive and competitive. From local club qualifiers to the prestigious All England Club finals, these refinements ensured a level playing field, fair competition, and thrilling matches across all categories.
What changed this year?
- Refreshed WTN bands: Adjustments opened the door to more players, encouraging wider participation and creating closer matches.
- Better match-ups: Players faced opponents with similar WTNs, leading to more exciting and rewarding contests.
- Clearer progress: Participants could track their WTN before and after the event, seeing exactly how their performances impacted their rating.
We caught up with one of the Play Your Way to Wimbledon venue organisers to find out how the refreshed bandings worked for their club: “I feel the WTN cap at 32.0 helped me encourage the more recreational players (newer to competition) to take part, and everyone loved it! We had our biggest entry ever, 20 boys and 12 girls!
“I am delighted at the girls’ entry, and I hope this will encourage them to get more involved with all our tennis events at the club. I look forward to hosting more events next year; some of the parents were interested in playing themselves so I'll be applying for the adult events too!”
As the sun set over Centre Court, it was clear: WTN isn’t just a rating — it’s helping shape the future of fair, fun competition.
